Nor-Pac is a multi-tiered military organization established in the wake of the fall of NATO in 2011 CE, during the expansion of undersea colonization and resource exploitation efforts that came from that time period. Following the near-cataclysmic Livingston Trench Incident of 2017 CE, Nor-Pac's assets were absorbed into the United Earth/Oceans Organization (UEO); to a degree, ad-hoc references to UEO operations prior to the UEO's establishment are Nor-Pac's, due to their interchangeability in the eyes of its personnel.

Artificial Intelligence

Sometime during the development of seaQuest DSV 4600, Captain Nathan Bridger had his brain mapped for use in an artificial intelligence construct, as part of a means to advise captains in military engagements. A copy of it was recovered sometime prior to 2021 CE by a former UEO intern and installed into a prototype Marauder-class submarine. The upload to the submarine was corrupted, but complete enough that the more militaristic aspects of Bridger's personality, including Bridger's war game NSC-2012, became defined in the ship's artificial intelligence and the autonomous submarine turns renegade (DSV: "The Sincerest Form of Flattery").

GELFs

Experiments on GELFs in the wake of genetic experimentation being outlawed in 2004 CE by the United Nations continued as part of a clandestine part of Nor-Pac[1]. Due to the threat of Macronesian discovery of such damning evidence, Captain Nathan Bridger leads a small team to the facility (now in Macronesian territory) to recover and destroy all evidence as a Section 7 operation (DSV: "Good Soldiers").

seaQuest

seaQuest DSV 4600 was designed and built under Nor-Pac's auspices sometime mid-2010s CE, with Captain Nathan Bridger overseeing its development up until the apparent death of his son, Robert Bridger, which lead to his resignation from Nor-Pac military service. seaQuest was brought online, commanded by Captain Bridger's protege, Captain Marilyn Stark, and her executive officer, Jonathan Ford. Many of seaQuest's key military personnel were later transferred from Nor-Pac to the UEO, including Miguel Ortiz, Timothy O'Neill, and Phillips.

During the Livingston Trench Incident in 2017 CE, Nor-Pac Command attempts to communicate with Stark, successfully relaying orders at the last minute to stand down. Stark ignores these orders and attempts to unleash seaQuest's arsenal in a first strike, but Ford stops her and relieves her of duty (DSV: "To Be or Not to Be").

References

  1. While the UEO was not established until 2018 CE, many assets were absorbed from Nor-Pac and earlier iterations, including dark projects. When Nathan Bridger mentions "UEO," he is speaking of Nor-Pac, even though it may be construed as a continuity error.
